DT: Unscripted Sketches

With Mother's Day coming up, I wanted to make something special for the moms in my life.  I used this week's sketch at Unscripted Sketches and love the way it turned out. I had this die for so long and I'm finally putting it to use.  I recycled some thin chipboard from packages to make the frame.  It is adhered together with foam tape for more dimension.  The floral spray is from a swap I did with A Lil Scrap of Heaven.  For the post, click here
Supplies~
pp: Bailey{K&Company}
dies: scallop frame & frame back; small easel {Sizzix}

DT: Drunken Stampers

Another fabulous challenge is posted on Drunken Stampers.  For this week's challenge, we want to see some acetate on your project.  Here's mine...
I just love this paper collection from Bo Bunny.  The designs are so adorable and I love the colors.  When I first saw this die set from Spellbinders, this idea for the card came to me.  I folded the ends over to insert the acetate tag.  The flowers hold the tag in place so it won't fall out.
I positioned the phrase so it was hidden by the twine.  You don't know what it says until you pull out the tag.  And the other side also has a phrase.
The tag is cut from the same die set.  I didn't want to cover up the design, so that's why I chose to use acetate. Did I mention I love this paper collection? Ü  The paper doily is cut in half since the die's so big.  It's a great layering piece.  Would you agree?
Supplies~
pp: Persuasion Collection{Bo Bunny}
cs: early espresso{SU}
stamp set: flirty phrases{Verve}
dies: charming banner{Verve}; Ornate Artisan Tags and Accents{Spellbinders}
misc: pink flowers{I Am Roses}; blue flowers{Savvy}; pink twine; eyelet{American Crafts]; ribbon{Target's $1bin}; paper doily

this week's fabulous prizes are donated by:
prize: $15 gift certificate
AND
prize: winner's choice of 7 digis

For my project, I decided to make this tag.  I cut the tag out using Tim Holtz, Tag & Bookplates.  The backing is the packing cardboard from an EK Success border punch.  It's sturdy enough to adhere even the heaviest of embellishments.  The two big flowers I paper pieced and inked around the edge with Copics marker.  Then layered them with foam tape.  Since the butterflies would blend with the background, I colored the edge with Copics as well.  I added Stickles to the sprigs and to the orange flower I had stamped with distress ink.  And to finish off the tag, I handmade the charm to coordinate with the color combo.
Supplies~
pp: Mango Frost Stack{DCWV}
stamp set: Sunny Days{Verve}
dies/punch: leafy sprigs, charming oval{Verve}; royal butterfly{MS}
inks: onyx black{Versafine}; spiced marmalade{Tim Holtz}; W3 &100{Copics}

DT: Unscripted Sketches

I have a wonderful announcement to share...I've been asked to join the amazing design team for Unscripted Sketches! Woohoo!!  I love using sketches and adding my own spin to it.  For me, a sketch is a great way to start...especially when I'm out of mojo.
Here is this week's sketch:
I brought out from my stash one of K&Company's older paper collection to create this card.  I love the designs and color palette in this collection.  For the base of the card, I took a 4 1/4x8 1/2 black card stock and scored at 3 inches. Then fold it over to make a flap.
I took a Labels 9 die and cut another flap, tucking the back to the base of the card.  The stamped sentiment is adhered with foam tape.  I love this stamp set from Stampin' Up...nine cute pairs to choose from.  Perfect for "inside & outside" sentiments.
Added some rhinestone corners and to the centers of the flowers.  As you can see from the side view, the top flap is holding down the larger flap.
For the inside of the card, I cut a circle using the Standard Small Circle die.  Again, the sentiment is from the same set...simple and sweet!
Supplies~
pp: Amy Butler's Lotus Collection{K&Company}
cs: black; very vanilla{SU}
stamp set: petite pairs{SU}
dies: standard small circle, labels 9 {Spellbinders}
misc: daisy flowers{I Am Roses}; black rhinestones; rhinestone corners{Recollections}

Easter Project

Happy Easter!  Hope you're spending this day with loved ones.  I made this small project, altering these plastic eggs I got from the 99 cent store.  The diamond etching caught my eye and had the idea to do this....

The bird cage is a die from Memory Box-love their dies!  I added some glittered mesh to the bottom, along with some beads and flowers.  The eggs are sealed with glossy accent and decorated with trim and lots of flowers from I Am Roses.
Supplies~
die: birdcage{Memory Box}; leaf{MS}
flowers: I Am Roses
misc: pearl flourish{Recollection}; crystal beads; leaf trim, pearl trim, organza ruffle trim; handmade charms

Viva La Verve!-Challenge

This is another Verve sketch challenge I did for week 1.  I thought the sentiment went perfectly with the paper collection.  The yellow card stock is paper pierced along the edge...I can't do this without my TH's ruler.  It's one of my must haves when crafting.  I added some stickles to the sprigs and tied green bakers twine at the bottom.  The center image is outlined with Copics to make it stand out more.  Then adhered with foam tape for extra dimension.
Supplies~
pp: the spring fling{DCWV}
cs: tropicals{American Crafts}
stamp set: Sunny Days{Verve}
dies/punch: leafy sprigs{Verve}; picot edge{Spellbinders}; doily lace{MS}

Viva La Verve! Challenge

This card is for my sweet niece, Inez...her 100th day celebration.  In Korea, we celebrate the 100th day after the baby is born.  Long ago in Korea, many babies did not live past 100 days due to poor living conditions and lack of healthcare.  So when they do reach 100 days, it's a day to celebrate.

I used week 2 sketch challenge from VerveI love this sentiment...it's perfect for the occasion.  For the tag, I used my P-touch label maker to print her name.  Love using these cherry blossoms from I Am Roses.com.
Supplies~
pp: the sweet matstack{DCWV}
stamp: Smallest Things, Plain Jane{Verve}
die: Ornate Artisan tags and accents{Spellbinders}
misc: I Am Roses; jewelry tag{Avery}; winter white seam binding

Simply Flowers

Did I mention how much I enjoy swaps?!  Well, I love swapping with crafty, talented peeps....and here's one of the swaps on A Lil Scrap of Heaven.
We had to make three flowers, fully decorated with feathers, leaves...the works.  And I have to say that I enjoyed making these.  I just hope the girls like them too. Ü
I made three different types of flowers.  The size is perfect to use on any project.  I have a project for one of these lovelies, so keep an eye out for that post. Ü

For this flower, I used Magnolia Doohickeys Dies.  I love the details on the dies.  The pearls and crystals I took from the candle holder from Michaels.  I've used them on so many projects and still have a lot left. The flowers are inked with vintage photo distress ink.
Supplies~
pp: Bailey{K&Company}
punches: classic butterfly{MS}; Doohickey dies doily flowers, peony petals, poinsettia{all from Magnolia}
misc:  white half back pearls

This black and white themed flower is made from satin fabric.  I used the Loopy Bloom die and layered the pieces on top of each other.  Then for the center, I made this pearl flowers following a YouTube tutorial.
Supplies~
dies: loopy bloom, leafy flourish, fancy flourish{all MFT}
skeleton leaves{I Am Roses}
misc: black satin fabric, handmade stick pin

 And this little beauty I made using Prima flowers.  I was lucky to find matching pearls for the center. The lace fabric flower added for a touch of vintage.  Then layered with pink feathers, pearl trim, and leaf die I inked with tumble glass distress ink.
supplies~
flowers: Prima
die: foliage{Spellbinders}
